Better 03:01
We used to shine You and I Together We used to talk about What we couldn't do without But when you're not here I am consumed with doubt I wish I could make it better It's hard to walk away And I know it doesn't matter But I wanna stay It's gettin' darker I can feel it creepin' in As it surrounds me Will I see you again Or did you forget me Do you see my face Or did you erase me If I stop by tonight Gimme a chance to make it right Cause I can't go back home And I can't dance alone I can't go back home And I can't dance alone No I can't go back home And I can't dance alone I wish I could make it better It's hard to walk away And I know it doesn't matter But I wanna stay I never meant for this to happen I know I did you wrong And you oughta know That I've been lost since you've been gone

That night you told me You were thinkin' of skippin' town You'd been hurt again But this was the last time With tears in your eyes You said you'd see me around Then I realized I had to change your mind You're always running You're always running You're always running away There's always something There's always something There's always something I've been meaning to say Baby is there anything I can do to make you stay I've been thinkin' about you, girl Could you feel the same way You smiled back at me Then you took my hand You pulled me close and told me We would always be friends, no, no You're always running You're always running You're always running away There's always something There's always something There's always something I've been meaning to say You're always running You're always running You're always running away You're always running You're always running You're always running But I'm here to stay Stay (Running, running, running) Please stay (Running, running, running) Stay (Running, running, running) Please stay You're always running But baby, please stay You're always running You're always running You're always running away There's always something There's always something There's always something I've been meaning to say You're always running You're always running You're always running away You're always running You're always running You're always running But I'm here to stay

Again 03:52
I've been waiting Girl, you know I've been waiting To find someone who's worth my time I've been searching Girl, you know I've been searching For a woman who is just my type Now that I've found you I don't know what to do Cause I have never been here before If I say something That you don't want to hear I cannot stand to see you Walk out the door And it happened all over again I could've lost my mind And if I thought that we could Still be friends I would've never tried to Make you mine Why can't you see That you're worth it to me Oh baby please don't make me Beg you to stay Cause every time you're walkin' Out on me It's something I can't face You try to put me In my place And you know I hate it When you say I don't Listen to ya I'm running out of energy To play this game Cause every day you Make me chase you, girl I'm losing all my patience For ya And it happened all over again I could've lost my mind And if I thought that we could Still be friends I would've never tried to Make you mine

Shake 04:20
It's something About the night That feels right They say we're not meant to be together I'm the darkness, but you're the light Why did you bring me here Please help me understand Help me release my fear Then you take my hand And I tremble I tremble And I tremble I tremble Shake, can you feel me shake Shake, can you feel me shakin' Shake, can you feel me shake Shake, can you feel me shakin' I listen to your words As you try to explain This happens all the time And no one is to blame These thoughts inside my mind Are driving me insane You turn your back on me And I watch you walk away And I tremble I tremble And I tremble I tremble Shake, can you feel me shake Shake, can you feel me shakin' Shake, can you feel me shake Shake, can you feel me shakin'

Wanting More 05:51
I wanted more, I wanted more I hoped you would answer the door I loved you so, why did you go You left me here, out in the cold You swore to me that you'd never leave I left my heart upon my sleeve I thought I could build us a home But when I was with you, I felt so alone Something changed, you turned away But I still saw the look you gave You told me you needed a friend I stood by while you went with him Woah oh, I can't remember your face Woah oh, I can't remember your face You were the sun, the heat I felt And late at night, we both would melt I can't explain why we've grown apart Is there someone else I see you fading away What have I done Or what didn't do How did I lose you I'm all alone in this city I'm all alone in this city I'm all alone in this city I'm cold, I shake, I'm sick How did I lose you How did I lose you How did I lose you

Wonder Why 05:15
Can't you see And you wonder why And you wonder why And you wonder why Can't you see And you wonder why And you wonder why And you wonder why You tell her that she's beautiful And you tell her how much you care She's looking back into your eyes You wonder is she really there Yeah I've been down this road before And I can't tell you what to do This isn't what you want to hear But she's using you, and she used me too And you wonder why And you wonder why And you wonder why Can't you see And you wonder why And you wonder why And you wonder why I think that you should play it safe I think she's up to something strange I'm telling you that she's no queen And you're playing a dangerous game I've seen it myself and I've said the same things But I'm warning you, don't give her that ring I've seen the damage she can do She's using you, and she used me too And you wonder why And you wonder why And you wonder why Can't you see And you wonder why And you wonder why And you wonder why *Saxophone solo* Can't you see Can't you see Can't you see Can't you see

about

Help Society began in east Texas around 2006 as a solo project for Knifight synth player, Patrick Marshall. Help Society acted as a place for songs and ideas that didn’t necessarily fit with the sound of bands in which Patrick played. In 2010, Patrick moved to Austin, TX to continue making albums and playing live with Knifight. There, Patrick met and collaborated with friends and other musicians and continued to add pieces to Help Society songs. As these ideas started to develop, a theme emerged that would tie them together. Help Society’s debut album, Gettin’ Low & Lettin’ Go, is about the process of grief—whether it be loss of a loved one or a relationship gone sour. Patrick describes the function of this record as an exhalation—not to imply that you ever truly say goodbye to the pain or sadness of loss—but that you learn in time to integrate it with your life and eventually find yourself again. Patrick produced this album with John Hetherington of Yacht Country Recording who mixed and mastered at his home studio in Tyler, TX. Together, Patrick and John sought to highlight the raw and abrasive feelings being expressed in each song while allowing space for softness and tranquility. From overdriven lead synth lines pushed to the fore to carefully arranged choir vocals filling up the background, this record spans a wide range of delicately crafted sounds. The cover art design was created by Christopher Royal King of This Will Destroy You and Symbol. Patrick asked Chris to incorporate a photograph of his grandfather, G.A. Marshall, letting go of balloons in front of his home. This photo was a crucial piece of inspiration for the record’s theme. Look for Gettin’ Low and Lettin’ Go to be released digitally on Monday, June 1st, 2020.
